Lauri Novak
Lauri Novak has been part of The Photography Scavenger Hunt in some way, shape or form since the very 1st round almost 10 years ago. She is an award-winning fine art photographer, photo tour guide, mentor and author based outside of Chicago with an eye for photographing architecture, traveling as much as possible and just wandering in nature with her camera.
A camera was ever-present in Lauri’s childhood, with her mother capturing many family vacation photographs. Lauri received her first camera as a youngster and ever since the world has opened up to her through the view-finder, bringing into focus many of the details in life that are often overlooked. Growing up close to one of the most architecturally rich cities in the US sparked an early interest in architecture, which is a recurring theme in Lauri’s work.
Traveling was also a big part of Lauri’s life. Her family traveled somewhere new every year allowing her to see different cities and landscapes across the United States and opening up many opportunities for photography and fostering her wandering spirit. She traveled overseas on her own and discovered different cultures, amazing historical architecture and the incredible beauty of the world, while capturing the wonder of it all with her camera.
One of the questions Lauri is asked most often both by viewers of her work and other photographers is, “How did you see that?” She works hard to show different perspectives, unique angles and the everyday details of a wide variety of subjects. Lauri also loves to help other photographers learn how to find their own ways of seeing.
Lauri also has a passion for helping others. She offers mentorships and photo tours to help other photographers on their own artistic journeys and she shares her inspiration and motivational tips for photographers as an author at Photofocus.com.
Mark Rodriguez
Mark joins us as a judge as the winner of Round 31
Godriguez (a.k.a. Mark Rodriguez) is an award-winning Florida based artist who creates unique custom artwork via many different disciplines of art, from photography to woodworking to 3D printing and beyond.
He is predominantly known for his self-portraiture photography coupled with his Photoshop skills which earned him the nickname “Godriguez” although he claims “I am not a god, but I play one in Photoshop”.
Mark is a veteran of the Scavenger Hunt, he has been involved from day one and still actively participates when he isn’t slacking and missing the deadline.
He says: “I try to take a different look at the world and see what I can do to push myself as an artist in my various mediums. In my work I like to explore conceptual and creative thinking pieces, as well as ones that just make you laugh…I, for one, am never afraid to laugh at myself via my artwork.” This is never more evident in his approach to self-portraiture and the concepts and stories he weaves within them.
